A young American man stands in his hotel room, nursing a mild hangover with a cup of coffee. A few empty beer bottles lie on the floor from last night. Last night... what did he do, exactly? Perhaps it will be revealed in the text sent to him by a young Japanese woman.

DEAR BEAT

If you're reading this I must be dead and so you know the truth about me now. I really hated being so phony with you and everyone else but it was the only thing I could do. And you don't have to believe that it was right to do what we did but at least believe that part of why I was being friendly with you even with the game is because it didn't seem like you would have to be a target and better to be pals with living prey than at each other's throats. I did think you were a swell guy, that was the least phony part. I hope you make it out of this game. If you do please try to find out if Phoebe Caulfield is okay. She might not be. That was part of why I needed to win. Otherwise, take good care of Rhyme since that's the next best thing.

Fukawa Touko Syo set sights on me because of being pals with Akane
CRAZY
She knows America has to save her but wont do it
Im her hostage
Shes got a knife shell threaten me with at the trial to make America save her
I cant back out because shes obviously just crazy prey so I cant admit I dont want to save her
And if she dies shell burn Akanes notes and letters that were meant for me
Making sure she doesnt live is more important than me getting those I want them this game is about sacrifices though and Akane will understand if I do get to see her again
But getting stabbed is too huge a risk especially since shes so crazy and you know why I cant get killed
SO please try to GET RID OF HER KNIFE somehow
Or maybe someone can shoot her???

Also she says she has "a role" and will claim at the trial
Dove - bloodhound - deerhound - doctor - defender - protector - watcher - ??????
America doesn't know hunters know protector can help poison victim - he thinks he can only help Akane if the hunters don't know he can because the hunters will then take the opportunity to kill a special role (like Ukyo?) and that would be worse than just losing a prey.

For Akane to die tonight we need to make it look like America has to protect someone else more OR make it public information that he can save Akane. HOW?

* "protect someone from being turned into a werewolf"? had to think this up on the spot, probably too risky from his perspective
* convince him he still should protect Ukyo

DID SOMETHING HAPPEN TO YOU LAST NIGHT
[Scratchy teenage boy handwriting.]

I know Edward Nigma had an extra role that would not help the pack because I have one of those too. I am the LONE WOLF. It means I don't get my incentive unless I live to the end of the game. As you can see this is only a disadvantage because it keeps me from working with the pack since I do not want to sacrifice myself or my sister. (She's my incentive. Her name is Phoebe.) On the other hand the pack might just not want to keep a guy with a handicap like that around or think I am lying. It's all quite disadvantageous really.

So it would be more convenient for everyone to just never have to find out. I have only told Robin so far because I want someone to know if I do die. Apparently Edward Nigma never told anyone what being the alpha meant. Not very considerate of him. If I had to guess I would think it means he would not get his incentive if the pack did not agree with him on who to kill. But we will probably never know.

And you don't have to tell them this because it is already knowledge the whole pack has that you & Ukyo & Bruce Wayne & Sanae Hanekoma were the four good roles. I guess it makes sense that we are really just different sorts of ordinary wolves. Wolves cannot be trackers or stalkers, and snake aren't wolves, and there aren't werewolves in real life. But lone wolves and alphas really do exist.
[Written in sorta scratchy teenage boy handwriting.]

I'm just prey. I don't do anything special. I probably have a disadvantage here more than anything, especially considering I had a really normal life compared to all of you countries and whatnot.

To be honest I think Joshua may have done it because he's acting a lot like a smart hunter would - proactive enough for people to like that he's being helpful, but it still leads to things like us lynching Babydoll. However I don't want to see him lynched because I know Mr. H knew him and didn't want him to die. So what I think would be best is if the bloodhound investigated him tonight and then if he does turn up as a wolf we can lynch him then if we have to.

Thanks for doing all this.

Day 1

Holden comes to Prayer's Pass expecting some kind of retreat and is kind of creeped out by the whole thing. He goes out to the woods to smoke, where he meets Mayu, a nice girl who is looking for her axe. He ends up spending most of the day in the palace of fun where he meets Akane and Aoi; the former knocks him out a little, the latter strikes him as nice. He's assigned to Cabin P, which he shares with Xion (who he does not really talk to) and Damian Wayne, a detective's half-orphan brat allegedly competent in combat. They don't get along that well but at the same time Holden recognizes Damian as just a kid.

Day 2

In the rec room Holden chats with a guy named Charles and mentions that he thinks Bonnie is not a visitor. He also tries to talk to Hermione.

Holden votes at random for James Sunderland on the grounds that he appears to be an adult man.

Holden leaves the trial very concerned about the implications having voted for no reason will have. Akane approaches him - he explains to her that he voted at random, but then becomes curious about her decision to vote for Mayu. She implies she had her reasons and with her feminine wiles entices him into an alliance. Spain also comes along but they mostly make idle conversation about Spain's status as a member of the country nicknames club.

Day 3
Holden hears about the disappearances on the radio but convinces himself to act nonchalant at first, and after breakfast immediately heads to the Palace of Fun. Unfortunately, much to his shock and distress Mayu's severed head lies underneath the pool table. Needing to know more, he heads to the town hall. There it is revealed that not only was the prey Sam Winchester executed by hunters the night prior, but Mayu was an omnivorous "scavenger" decapitated by an unknown party, and Mr. Hanekoma, the "tracker" among the wolves, was shot. Beat, who knew Hanekoma from before, is distressed by this discovery; Holden chooses this time to have a private conversation with him.

During the trial Touko casts suspicion on people who talked privately, for which Holden kids her mercilessly. Akane joins in as she continues to defend people who voted yesterday, cementing his fondness of her. Naegi on the other hand is a slight source of friction. Beat comes forward about their conversation; as they continue to discuss, Holden argues that Robin may have killed Mayu but would have done so as a scavenger. A little late, Aoi shows up to the trial to Holden's relief. Ema and Beat arrange a test of swordsmanship, which Holden encourages them to have in public.

To cooperate with the forming mob and avoid voting for Robin, Holden casts his vote with the mob for Elliot Nightray. After he is chilled to have voted for prey with a power role instead of Beat's proposed Robin and also that Touko voted for him, but decides to leave her alone. Akane, who to Holden's disappointment abstained, takes the death much worse and Holden fails to comfort her, eerily reminiscent of the time he almost necked with Jane Gallagher. He expresses apologies for not voting with him to a morose Beat.
[He gets sodas for both of them - might offer Beat first choice between the three or four different types he got from the store - before going into his room and locking the door behind them.]

...I'm sorry for insinuating you weren't taking things serious, first off. But this game stuff - it's very real for me. I've got my little sister to get back to.

Lay it on me however you want. I mean, I'm not going to screen this crap, obviously, because how the hell could we talk then?
